Tarkski theme tryout

Having settled on Wordpress with a link to TNG what is need is a Wordpress theme which can be easily incorporated as a TNG template. So I looked for something widely used, free, supported, clear, attractive and which produces well formed XHTML code.

Now there is the classic Hemingway and all its variations but the author has got fed up and there are too many variants, besides which its bottom menu whilst sexy is not the best layout for TNG. Next I found some solid YUI based themes: SEO Sandbox, YUI-Mainstream, YUI Autogrid Minimal. These use Yahoo’s YUI cross-browser style unifiers (reset-fonts-grids and base) and so can guarantee a transparent crossover between Wordpress and TNG pages. There is also Vanilla which looks like a really good integration of Sandbox and YUI but for the moment it is still in a prerelease testing stage so I’ll have to wait to be able to judge but it smells like the future…

Then I came across Tarski. this theme seems popular and has a familiar and clean look with easy options for fine tuning behind the scenes. It has a header which can be personalized, a side menu which can be added to and swapped from right to left and if required will load a personalized stylesheet. I don’t particularly like the Times font but that is not as important as having a legible and futureproof front page for the website.

Now to the next step – trying to create the same look in the TNG template.
